Hogs lead SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Feb. 23, 2024)—–The Arkansas men’s and women’s teams lead the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships following the first day of competition here Friday at the Randall Tyson Track Center.

The Razorbacks lead the men’s standings through five events with 44 points. Florida (23), Ole Miss (23), Kentucky (22.5), Alabama (14), Georgia (12), South Carolina (12), Texas A&M (12), LSU (11.5), Auburn (11), Tennessee (6) and Missouri (4).

Through six events, Arkansas leads the women’s standings with 37 points. Florida is second with 30 points, followed by Texas A&M (27), Kentucky (26.5), Ole Miss (26.5), Alabama (21), Tennessee (17), Auburn (16), Vanderbilt (15), LSU (7), Georgia (6), Mississippi State (3) and Missouri (2).

Individual champions Individual champions were crowned in 11 events on Friday: • Kentucky’s Charity Hufnagel won the women’s pentathlon with 4,098 points. She is the second consecutive Kentucky athlete to win the SEC pentathlon. Auburn’s Paula Grauvogel (4,011) was second, followed by Texas A&M’s Jonair Thomas (3,997). • Texas A&M’s won the women’s pole vault with a mark of 4.32m/14-2. • Ole Miss‘ Jalani Davis won the women’s weight throw with a meet record and collegiate-leading toss of 25.09m/82-3.75. It is her second consecutive SEC indoor title in the weight throw and fifth in a row for the Rebels. • Arkansas‘ Sydney Thorvaldson won the women’s 5,000m with a meet record time of 15:42.45. • Kentucky’s Keaton Daniel won the men’s pole vault with a height of 5.62m/18-5.25. • Florida’s Claire Bryant won the women’s long jump with a mark of 6.72m/22-0.75. • Arkansas‘ Wayne Pinnock won the men’s long jump with a mark of 8.28m/27-2. • Arkansas‘ Peter Maru set a meet record to win the men’s 5,000m in 13:31.11. The previous record was set in 2004. • Ole Miss‘ Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan claimed the men’s weight throw with a toss of 23.55m/77-3.25. • Florida set a meet record in the women’s distance medley relay with a time of 10:53.29. • South Carolina won the men’s distance medley relay with a time of 9:34.50.

Heptathlon Arkansas went 1-4 in the first day standings of the men’s heptathlon. Marcus Weaver leads with 3,295 points, followed by Yariel Soto Torrado (3,266) and Gabriel Emmanuel (3,239).

Saturday’s schedule, SECN+ coverage The second day of the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships is slated to begin Saturday at 12 p.m. CT with the men’s heptathlon 60m hurdles. Live coverage on SECN+ will begin at 2 p.m. CT.
